The Purple Friday Initiative

Purple Friday is a grassroots movement created in response to domestic and family violence. It began in Ballina after a local tragedy that shook the community during an already difficult time. The idea was simple: wear purple on Fridays to show that violence has no place in our homes, workplaces or communities.

The campaign quickly grew as clubs, schools and businesses joined in. Wearing purple became more than a gesture. It became a weekly reminder to check in, speak up, and support those affected by violence.

In 2025, the movement gained momentum when ClubsNSW launched Clubs for Community United Against Violence, a program built around education, advocacy, and connection. More than 25 clubs across New South Wales and Queensland are now involved, working together to raise awareness and take meaningful action.

Purple Friday is about participation. Whether it is through a conversation, a workplace event, or simply wearing the colour, the message is clear. Domestic and family violence are not someone else's problems. It affects every community, and it is on all of us to help end it.
